Pastor Wayne T. Jackson
Detroit Pastor Wayne T. Jackson, who caused a stir when he invited GOP candidate Donald Trump to speak at his church on Sept. 3, and interviewed him for his Christian TV show, is among the religious leaders expected to participate in the Jan. 20 swearing-in ceremony in Washington for the president-elect and Vice President Mike Pence, Jonathan Oosting of the Detroit News reports.
Jackson, pastor of Great Faith Ministries International church, got pushback from Trump opponents. Trump was having a difficult time connecting with African American voters during his campaign, and some accused Jackson of betraying African Americans by extending the invitation to Trump. Others thought it was publicity stunt by Jackson.
Other faith leaders expected at the swearing-in ceremony include the Rev. Franklin Graham of The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, New York Archbishop Timothy Dolan and the Rev. Dr. Samuel Rodriguez of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference.
“I am pleased to announce that a diverse set of faith leaders will offer readings and prayers at the swearing-in of President-elect Trump and honor the vital role religious faith plays in our multicultural, vibrant nation," inaugural committee Chairman Tom Barrack said in a statement.
