A Nov. 3 drowning in Macomb County is bubbling into a controversy.
Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham has opened an investigation into why his department's dispatcher called the U.S. Coast Guard to respond to a fisherman in distress on Lake St. Clair instead of a nearby Harrison Township Fire Department that is trained in water rescue, Mitch Hotts of The Macomb Daily writes.
The fisherman, Craig Aquino, 47, drowned after his rowboat overturned near the mouth of the Clinton River, the paper reported. His pet Boston Terrier also drowned.
“We have been getting some emails that are making very serious allegations,” Wickersham said Monday, according to the paper. “We are doing a thorough investigation to see if our department’s procedures and policies were followed.”
