Finally, Detroit is getting a Nerd Nite. All the cool people will be there. Plus spiders.
Neal Rubin writes in The Detroit News that Ann Arbor didn't get its first Nerd Nite until January, after all, so we're only a few turns of the calendar behind. And not all of the cool people will be there; the Great Lakes Coffee Roasting Co. in Midtown can only hold 134 of them.
The spiders will definitely be in attendance Thursday, though. So will trapeze artists and an expert on Detroit under Prohibition.
No, not the Purple Gang Prohibition. The first one.
Nerd Nite has perhaps best been described as the Discovery Channel live, with beer. It's a low-cost, low-key gathering of people who want to hang out, be convivial and learn stuff.
