Any way you look at it, Hayley Marie Turner, the 18-year-old Monroe County woman who claimed she was abducted Thursday night while heading home from a video store, is in trouble.
Ecorse police believe Turner cut herself to make her fake abduction seem real, Tony Briscoe and Karen Bouffard of The Detroit News report. She was found Friday, 16 hours after it was first thought she was abducted, in Ecorse.
Ecorse Lt. Greg Blade, who held a press conference on Monday, said investigators became suspicious when the cut marks were only in one area, the abdomen. She also couldn't provide details on her abductor, Blade said.
The cash-strapped police department will push to get reimbursed for expenses involved in the search.
Police are asking the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office to charge the woman with lying to police.
