It's a little tough to pass up on a good pun in a case like this.

The Detroit News began its story this way:

Was it good police work or a phone call from a stoolie?

Tom Greenwood and Tony Briscoe of the Detroit News went on to report that Ypsilanti police have a person of interest in the city’s case of the infamous “mystery pooper” who defecated on slides at the city’s Prospect Park during the winter months.

Police said there have been no other incidents after contacting the man. No charges have been filed, according to the News.

“We want to make clear to the public that we have only talked to a person of interest,” Lt. Deric Gress said in a statement. “... There is not enough substantiated information to conclude that this subject has done anything wrong. The person was interviewed by detectives, and it appears that this contact with law enforcement has corrected the behavior of the individual.”

Ypsilanti Council Member Pete Murdock told the told the Ann Arbor News that the suspect is a resident of a nearby halfway house.

The problem came to light after people started noticing that someone was defecating children's slides at Prospect Park during the winter.  -- A.L.
