The Detroit City Council gave the nod Tuesday for a new levy for three upscale Detroit neighborhoods for supplemental services such as plowing, mosquito spraying and security, The Detroit News reports.
The extra fees for the city’s Sherwood Forest, Palmer Woods and Detroit Golf Club areas will be on property owners' summer tax bills. Annual fees vary by neighborhood. Sherwood Forest residents will pay $250; Palmer Woods residents, $495; and Golf Club residents, $404.
The petition-driven initiative was approved in each district by at least 51 percent of owners.
Some residents have complained that the city should provide adequate services without extra taxes.
