Warren Evans and wife Renata Seals
It pays to have connections.
Renata Seals, the wife of Wayne County Executive Warren Evans, was hired last year in the Wayne County Treasurer’s office at $60,000 a year, despite no prior government experience or even a college degree, reports Ross Jones of WXYZ.
A few months later, when a new treasurer took over, Seals got a promotion, going from a contract employee, to full-time with benefits and a $10,000 raise, Jones reports. Her job is to educate residents and help them avoid foreclosures of their homes.
At the time of the hiring and raise, Seals was Evan's girlfriend.
Wayne County Treasurer Eric Sabree was the one who promoted Evans' wife after only eight months on the job,
He tells WXYZ that he didn't consider anyone else for the job, but it had nothing to do with the fact Evans endorsed him for county treasurer.
