Crowne Plaza Downtown Plans Second Hotel Tower

The Crowne Plaza Downtown Detroit Riverfront hotel at 2 Washington Blvd. is planning to add a 28-story second tower, reports Kirk Pinho of Crain's Detroit Business.

The proposed addition will be taller than the 25-story current hotel.

The owner, a Mexican and European investor group, su mitted documents to a Detroit City Council committee. 

Construction is expected to start next winter and be completed in 2021.

The hotel, formerly called Hotel Pontchartrain, is near Cobo Center.
