There's almost something cruel about this.
After suffering through a mean recession/depression, Detroit has an abundance of IT jobs, but not enough people in Michigan to fill them.
The Detroit News reports that Detroit expects to create thousands of high-paying IT jobs in the next few years, but firms like Quicken Loans Inc. are having to go beyond the Michigan borders to find candidates.
Interestingly, and really ironically, the paper noted that GalaxE.Solutions, a project management firm which has posted a very cool "Outsource to Detroit" banner on its downtown Woodward building, has had problems filling IT jobs.
"There is a shortage nationwide of good IT talent," Ryan Hoyle, director of global recruiting for GalaxE, told the News. "There just aren't a lot of top students going into IT." -- A.L.
