That image arises from a Detroit News roundup of "weird, scary, zany stuff" confiscated at Detroit Metro Airport.
Talk about putting the point in checkpoint: Two cane swords were seized this spring, Tony Briscoe reports.
The weapons are common discoveries, as many senior citizens and people with handicaps don't realize what they are when they buy them second-hand until an agent pulls the cane apart.
Last year's local haul, according to The News, included:
- A loaded .380 pistol strapped to man's ankle.
- A plastic dagger sewn into a woman's shirt hem.
- A stun gun disguised as a cell phone.
- Another Taser-style device that doubled brass knuckles.
