Apple store in downtown Chicago
John Gallagher writes a very flattering story about Dan Gilbert in Sunday's Detroit Free Press, and how he's been a key figure in transforming downtown Detroit and how Gilbert says he's just getting started.
Gallagher reports that Gilbert says "it's more likely than not" that an Apple store will open in downtown Detroit within five years.
That would obviously be a big deal, and could result in other retailers coming to the city.
Cities like Chicago and New York have impressive Apple stores that attracts hordes of visitors. There are two in Metro Detroit -- one in the Twelve Oaks Mall and the other in the Somerset Mall.
Gilbert has 78 downtown properties.
And he has plans to do more things including constructing his own buildings.
Gilbert says in the article that the design of a new signature building for the now-cleared Hudson's site will be finalized soon.
"I still think we're just starting," Gilbert says of the development in the city. "Detroit has just a massive upside.
