Dearborn Councilman Michael Sareini and Dana Nessel
Attorney General-elect Dana Nessel is resisting demands from certain groups and officials that she remove Dearborn Councilman Michael Sareini from her transition team because of domestic violence accusations and a PPO violation.
"The work of the majority of the transition team members is already completed and in fact the Attorney General has already met with all of the staff of the Attorney General's office," said Kelly Rossman-McKinney, the communications director for Nessel's transition team, according to Niraj Warikoo of the Detroit Press. "So the transition team's work is pretty much completed and we don't see making any changes in the team at all. The work is nearly done and no reason to make any changes at this point."
Following a Freep report earlier this month, several groups and officials said she should remove Sareini, saying it contradicts her message of supporting women and domestic violence victims. Sareini had been accused by three women of domestic violence in six incidents and was sentenced for violating an ex-wife's personal protection order.
He denies the allegations.
