Chilly firefighters at a heatless northwest Detroit station sometimes keep gas stove burners lit, WWJ reports. That's the type of risky remedy they'd warn homeowners to avoid.
Firefighters talking to WWJ Newsradio 950 said, in order to endure several days on the job in below-freezing temps, they were forced to use a gas stove and oven to heat the place. . . .
Detroit Fire Commissioner Don Austin confirmed that Ladder 25, Engine 53 has been without heat since Saturday due to a busted gas valve, but they’re working on the problem.
In the meantime, the frigid crew relocated from their 1926 firehouse on Greenfield to one at Burt and Schoolcraft -- after one of them posted the above above on Facebook, WWJ says.
