If you're one of those who imagined a heart-to-heart discussion between Tigers General Manager Dave Dombrowski and owner Mike Ilitch before Ilitch gave him the ax, well, it doesn't sound like it went down like that.
In fact, Dombrowski tells John Morosi of Fox Sports:
“I was not given any explanation, other than a change of direction, and I respect that. Nobody owes me any type of reason at all.”
The Tigers on Tuesday announced that Al Avila, dad of catcher Alex Avila, was taking over as general manager.
“Al (Avila) is great, a dear friend of mine. He deserves this opportunity, and I hope everything works out well for him," Dombrowski told Morosi.
Dombrowski wouldn't say how many teams have contacted him, but he said "I've had some nice conversations. "
He said his biggest regret was not winning the World Series.
