Bassel Abdul-Amir Saad
The Dearborn man whose temper got the best of him during an adult soccer league game last June 29, was sentenced Friday in Wayne County Circuit Court to 8 to 15 years in the death of a referee, the Detroit News reports.
Oralandar Brand-Williams of the News reports that Bassel Abdul-Amir Saad, in his late 30s, had pleaded guilty to manslaughter after he sucker punched referee Jon Bieniewicz during a soccer game in Livonia. The ref died two days later.
He apologized to the family during Friday's hearing, the news reports.
Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Thomas Cameron called the attack "childish and senseless" at Friday's hearing.
