It's getting windy around here, and not just outside.

More than a dusting of snow is coming, as you may have heard, and media language goes up to 11 with phrases such as "polar vortex." 

Chris Edwards opens his forecast at WXYZ's site with two sentences in bold-face capital letters, a loud shout for the comprehension-impaired. 

Here we go again, in other words . . . or familiar words, actually. 

This is blowing around locally:

  • "Winter Survival: Freezing Forecast" -- WWJ 
  • "Survival items and food staples are flying off store shelves." -- Free Press
  • "Another brutal push of dangerously frigid air takes over the Motor City area." -- WDIV
  • "Another arctic blast is in the forecast." -- Detroit News

In truth, a big blow is on the way, as the Freep describes:

Another foot of snow could drop by Sunday night. That will be followed by brutally cold air and wind chills that meteorologists have said could reach 20 to 40 degrees below zero.
