Former Detroit City Council President Charles Pugh is going on the offensive.
In a recent federal court filing, he says a lawsuit alleging that he offered a teenager cash and gifts for sex exists in the minds of the teen and his mother, Robert Snell of the Detroit News writes. Pugh was mentoring the teen through a program at a Detroit High School.
“This case exists solely in the minds of plaintiff’s mother and her attorneys,” Pugh lawyer Marc Deldin wrote in the filing, according to the News. “Charles Pugh denies the factual allegations and the outrageous allegations that he committed criminal acts or violated Plaintiff’s civil rights.”
Pugh, who resigned as president of the city council and fled town after the allegations first surfaced about him making sexual with the teen, is living in a duplex in Brooklyn that rents for about $3,400 a month, according to a court filing and public records, the News reports. A criminal investigation was conducted into the allegations in Oakland County, but charges were never filed.
Pugh denies sending regular text messages to the male teen, aggressively pursuing a sexual relationship or paying extra attention to the teen, the News reports.
All that being said, Pugh may have an uphill battle with the reams of text messages between the teen and Pugh that the teen's attorney obtained and included in court filings.
The legal filing on behalf of the teen by Farmington Hills attorney William Seikaly includes police reports on the investigation into Pugh and more than 100 pages of text messages, not all of which are between the student and Pugh. But the ones that are include graphic language about oral sex and Pugh’s obsession about getting the student to make a video of himself masturbating in exchange for money.
“I wanna see your body. Front and back. So the video has to show everything. lol. #EVERYTHING." The student appears hesitant in the texts but Pugh is insistent and continually offers money and video games for the sexual video.
At one point, Pugh texts: “Dude, if anyone finds out about this: I’m dead. So please keep this between us. . . . you have EXTRA money all the time.”
“The good news is I pay MORE for solos lol. $125 for solos and $150 if you shoot the vid over here lol.”
