A Detroit bus driver accidentally ran over and killed a man Saturday morning who had just gotten off the bus, WDIV reports.

WDIV's  Nick Monacelli reports that the incident happened on Van Dyke Avenue just south of 8 Mile Road.

WDIV reports that the man, described as being in his 50s,  had gotten off the bus and was taking his bike off the front rack of the bus when the driver ran him over. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police said that the bus driver apparently thought the man was no longer there, WDIV reports.

"When you take your bike off the front (of the bus), there is no way the bus driver can't see you," Keith Howard, a witness, told WDIV.

The driver was shaken up and has been taken off her route, WDIV reports.
