Here's some not-so-good news for the city of Detroit, which relies on tax revenues from the three casinos in town.
Karl Henkel of the Detroit News reports that monthly gaming revenue at the three casinos fell 9.5 percent to $96 million in January.
The News reports that it was the first month since September 2005 that monthly revenue did not exceed $100 million.
The News reports:
Revenue at MGM Grand Detroit dropped 8.5 percent to $41.2 million; at MotorCity Casino, it decreased 9.7 percent to $31.7 million; and at Greektown Casino, revenue plummeted 11.2 percent to $23.1 million, the Michigan Gaming Control Board said Wednesday.
The News pointed out that revenue at four Ohio casinos saw a 12-percent hike last month. Hollywood Casino Toledo is smoke free, unlike the Detroit casinos.
Last year, Detroit casino revenue fell 4.7 percent to $1.35 billion, or $67 million less than in 2012, the News reported. -- A.L.
