The child was attacked Friday morning as he visited a house on the 9000 block of Longacre, near Southfield and Joy roads, where he fed five dogs with their 36-year-old male owner.
The man briefly left the room and returned to find the child being mauled by two of the dogs. He was bit as he tried to help. Both the adult and child are in temp-serious condition and expected to be OK. The dogs were taken by animal control.
This is at least the second dog attack of a child to capture headlines since pit bulls killed a 9-year-old girl bicycling in the city's Southwest portion in 2019, prompting charges against the dog owner and an ordinance aimed to minimize the encounters. Thousands of strays and hundreds of bites are reported in Detroit each year.
