The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office is reviewing a warrant request accusing Detroit Tiger Evan Reed of sexual assault, Eric D. Lawrence reports in the Free Press.
The assault is alleged to have happened March 30 at the Motor City Casino Hotel, according to a news release this morning from the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
“A thorough review of all of the evidence must be conducted before a decision can be made. A charging decision is not expected this week. No further information about the case will be released until a charging decision is made,” the release said, noting that the prosecutor’s office does not release the name of an uncharged suspect.
Media outlets reported last month that Reed, a relief pitcher, was being investigated. Police said he was cooperative when he met with officers in April.
Both Reed and Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski declined comment today. When word of the investigation surfaced last month, the ball club issued this statement:
“The organization is aware of the very serious allegation that has been made against pitcher Evan Reed. This allegation is concerning and we are aware of an on-going investigation. It would be inappropriate for the ball club to comment further at this time.”
Reed, 28, is single. He is listed at 6-feet-4 and 255 pounds.
