Under Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr Detroit is spending a heck of a lot of money on consultants, and not everyone is sure it's worth it.
The Detroit News reports that six national firms are being paid about $1.4 million per month to help Detroit sort out its short-term and long-term debt.
Reporter Christine Ferretti writes:
Council member Saunteel Jenkins said she's not opposed to spending the money if the city achieves the savings and restructuring that was expected when the firms were brought in, but "we're not kept abreast of exactly what they are doing."
Jenkins goes on to say: "The council's expectation was that we would be informed and involved with any restructuring efforts that are going on. That has not happened. We haven't seen anything that shows that we're getting what we're paying for."
