Janee Ayers

Detroit Councilwoman Janeé Ayers, who was appointed to the council after Councilwoman Saunteel Jenkins' resigned in October 2014, was victorious in the primary on Tuesday night.

She won about 50 percent of the vote, and is expected to face off against David Bullock, a Highland Park pastor who appeared on a reality show on Detroit preachers last year. Bullock, who often appears on TV talk shows, generated about 23% of the vote, Joe Guillen of the Detroit Free Press writes.

The top two candidates advance to the general election in November.

Wayne State University law professor Eric Williams came in third with 17% of the vote.
