Served up at the Atomc Dawg in Berkley
Detroit Coney Islands are omnipresent in Metro Detroit. But there are some places in the area that are serving up creative hot dogs that go far beyond the chili-onion-mustard dogs.
Jeff Waraniak in Hour Magazine writes about five places servomh mighty creative dogs.
► Imperial: 22828 Woodward Ave., Ferndale. Choices include the "Imperial Sonoran," a bacon-wrapped dog served with Mexican ingredients.
► Atomic Dawg: 2705 Coolidge Hwy., Berkley. It serves up a variety of dogs, including the Hula Dawg, which includes teriyaki sauce, grilled pineapple, grilled onions, lettuce and Japanese cherry mayo.
► GoGo's: 2040 Park Ave., Detroit. This new spot in the Park Bar behind the Fox Theatre serves a Holo Dog, which comes in a hollowed-out onion-poppy seed bun and with add ons like Spam chili, sweet sesame mustard and pineapple jalapeno relish.
► UFO Factory: 2110 Trumbull Av.e., Detroit. The Laika Dog kitchen inside this joint serves up some signature dogs like a kimchi dog with friend ramen; a PB & J dog with raspberry ancho-mint jelly and the Banh Mi Dog, which come with pickled carrots and radishes, cucumber, red onion, cilantro and spicy vegan mayo.
► Stadium Hotdogs: 1034 Monroe St, Dearborn. Foot-long dogs include the Breakfast Dog, which comes with scrambled eggs, turkey bacon and shredded cheese.
