The father of a 9-year-old boy who fatally shot himself with a loaded shotgun in his home on Detroit west side, faces second-degree murder and other charges, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office announced Thursday in a press release.

Christopher Duran Head, 45 , is charged in the tragic Monday shooting of his son Daylen Makhai Head.

Authorities say that at about 12:35 p.m. in the home located in the 6600 block of Barton, the boy was found in a bedroom fatally shot in the head.

Authorities allege that the father possessed a loaded shotgun that was not secured and was accessible to the child.

The father faces the following charges:

  • ·         Homicide – Murder – Second Degree;
  • ·         Homicide – Manslaughter – Involuntary;
  • ·         Child Abuse - Second Degree;
  • ·         Weapons – Firearms – Short-Barreled Shotgun;
  • ·         Weapons – Firearms – Possession by Felon; and
  • ·         Weapons – Felony Firearm
