Capt. Franklin Williams, a 31-year veteran of the Detroit Fire Department, died Wednesday from Covid-19 complications.
The 57-year-old died from a heart attack he suffered while doctors tried to put him on a ventilator, reports Mara MacDonald of WDIV.
The department declared it the first line-of-duty death from the lung virus.
He first contracted the disease on March 24 and was home recovering. But he started getting worse and his wife took him to the hospital.
She expected he'd come home, the spouse tells WDIV. He also is survived by seven children.
Currently, more than 50 department members have tested positive for Covid-19.
