Anti-cop sentiments have been expressed by a local food truck owner before. The latest involves the owner of Rocky's Road Brew, a food truck on West Vernor Highway in Southwest Detroit, who posts this on social media:
"We Reserve the Right to Refuse Service to Cops."
"On this street corner I encounter all types and the only type that has ever purposely intimidated me is DPD (Detroit Police Department)," says Friday's post on the Rocky's Road Brew in Detroit Facebook page. "The majority of my neighbors, customers, and myself do not feel safe around law enforcement agents (ICE, DPD, Homeland Security, etc). I have asked friends from the National Lawyers Guild and I am well within my rights to refuse service to law enforcement agents.
"This for the safety of my neighbors and customers (who have all become friends) and myself," adds the post, accompanied by a photo with the nine-word message above.
The post ends with a hashtagged profanity in Spanish against immigration officers. The truck serves tacos and coffee and other items.
In 2014, Detroit BBQ Company's Tim Idzikowki caught heat when he posted a social media remark after two New York cops were executed on the streets by a gunman.
"How many times did they think they were going to kick the hornets nest before they got stung?" he tweeted at the time.
Rocky Coronado, owner of Rocky's Road Brew truck, confirms to George Huntrer of The Detroit News that she posted the message, but declined to elaborate.
Detroit Police Chief James Craig tells the paper she's known to be hostile to police officers.
A Deadline Detroit reader tweets Sunday:
@DeadlineDetroit I think the decision of Rock Coronado of Rocky’s Road Brew Truck to not to serve the police is wrong & I hope it has a negative impact on his business. These men & women put their lives on the line everyday. Maybe a few bad eggs but don’t judge them all. #DPD
