Detroit isn't shy about demanding back taxes from businesses and residents.

City tax collectors are going after as 7,000 residents and businesses in downtown and Midtown that owe years of city income tax,  reports Chad Livengood of Crain's Detroit Business. 

A team of 11 auditors and three attorneys have identified 33 properties in Midtown and downtown where fewer than 15 percent of the occupants have paid Detroit's 2.4-percent city income tax, says Butch Hollowell, corporation counsel for the city.

The city is suingowners and management companies that the operate Broderick Tower, the Cadillac Square Apartments, Penobscot Building and other properties.
