Detroit Investigates 17 Suspected Arsons Since Monday Night

Arsons continue to plague Detroit.

Detroit fire officials said they are investigating 17 suspected arson fires that started Monday night and continued into Tuesday morning, most of which were on the city's east side in a two-square-mile area around French Road, Ann Zaniewski and Daniel Bethencourt of the Detroit Free Press report. 

No one was hurt in the blazes at occupied and vacant homes.

"It’s a busy night, but we anticipated it. We had, like, about 30 fires in a 24-hour period yesterday," from roughly 8 a.m. Monday to 8 a.m. Tuesday, Detroit Fire Chief of Arson Patrick McNultyhe told the Freep.  "Last year, we had 25. It’s always a busy day for us on fireworks night."
