Is there a controversy brewing in city hall or is it much ado about nothing?

Chairwoman Erica Ward Gerson, head of the Detroit Land Bank Authority, tells Robert Snell of Crain's Detroit Business on Monday that she welcomes a federal investigation into the agency's operations. She says a state audit found no wrongdoing.

The Detroit Free Press reported Sunday that an investigation headed by the Office of the Special Inspector for the Troubled Asset Relief Program, or SIGTARP, has subpoenaed records of the Detroit auditor general regarding the use of federal funds for the city's aggressive demolition program.

The city has received about $150 million in federal funds to demolish blighted properties and is scheduled to receive more money this year, Snell writes.

"We take any kind of question like this very seriously and are cooperating but we don't really have any concerns about losing funding," Gerson says to Crain's.
