Anthony Adams and Mike Duggan

And let the politics begin.

In a sharply pointed Detroit Free Press guest column, attorney Anthony Adams writes that he's running against Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan because of the "benign neglect, apathy, and lack of empathy demonstrated by Duggan in failing to address the needs of Detroit residents."

The forward movement of Detroit is highlighted by new streetlights in the neighborhoods (compliments of former Mayor Dave Bing), suggested reduced response time for EMS and police service (a manipulated number, from my perspective), new buses, improvements in city parks (thanks to the bankruptcy Grand Bargain, which required public enhancements) and restored buildings in downtown Detroit.

As the QLINE traveled empty down Woodward pre-Covid-19, and Quicken Loans Inc. founder Dan Gilbert announced plans for the development of the tallest building in Detroit in the last 50 years, the question remains: Are most Detroiters participating in the economic progress that is being suggested? In that regard, the mayor has failed in his leadership to assist the residents of the city of Detroit with the real issues in their lives.

Issues of crime and poverty persist.

Adams was an executive assistant for Mayor Coleman Young, president of the Detroit School Board and Kwame Kilpatrick's deputy mayor.
