The media on Tuesday got a peak at the RoboCop statue, which is the final phase of production. It's likely to be find a home somewhere in downtown Detroit, though no location has been selected.

Tony Briscoe of the News reports that the 10-foot replica mold for the futuristic crime-fighting cyborg from the 1987 cult-classic movie, was displayed for the media at  Venus Bronze Works in Detroit. The final product is expected to be unveiled next summer.

“It’s just so amazing just how mind-blowing this whole project has been ... ,”  Brandon Walley, director of development of the nonprofit the Imagination Station, the organizers behind the drive to make the statue, said, according to the Detroit News. “Every city has pop-culture references from statues to public art and things like that, so I think this will add nicely to Detroit and the rejuvenation that’s happening here.”

For Giorgio Gikas, founder of Venus Bronze Works, the statue’s creation will be a change of pace from what his shop usually oversees: restoration projects that include the Spirit of Detroit statue, the Custer statue in Monroe and a Statue of Liberty replica on Mackinac Island.

“Now, we are doing RoboCop,” Gikas said laughing. “These are great guys, I mean the whole thing is fantastic. ... This is a new generation of our town. Having an idea and going for it, it’s what I love about it.”
