Detroit's top cop accompanied officers on a nightclub-shutdown visit to dramatize a message for other bars. "Businesses have a responsibility to ensure the safety of their patrons," Interim Chief James White said Friday afternoon outside Mix Bricktown.

Fox 2 reports:
Police showed up here because last weekend a man was severely and violently injured when investigators say a large group of people was fighting inside. Cops broke up the fight and found a man critically stabbed. ...
"There’s been a couple of incidents here. We came in we took a look to see the entire operation," [White] said. ... We have a responsibility to make sure the entire community is safe. ...
"I asked the officers to take a look at everything in the business. They found that the license was expired."

James White: "Businesses have a responsibility to ensure ... safety."
That let the department make Mix, on Beaubien at Fort Street, an example for nearby business owners after a series of incidents -- including a wild Monroe Street melee outside Greektown Casino two weeks ago and a double shooting May 5 in the parking lot of Basement Burger Bar on Brush Street.
Police are making visits "to ensure that [alcohol-serving businesses] have the requisite licenses, that they’re operating responsibly, that they have the appropriate security, that there are no fire and safety violations," White told reporters outside Mix.
Last weekend's 31-year-old stabbing victim remains hospitalized in critical condition, according to Fox 2.
