"Detroit," the long anticipated film on the Detroit 1967 Riot and the Algiers Motel, is slated to open nationwide on Aug. 4.

But now comes news that the film directed by Kathryn Bigelow will arrive a week early in select theaters around the country, including two in Metro Detroit, reports Julie Hinds of the Detroit Free Press.

The film opens next Friday in selected theaters in 10 areas.

In Metro Detroit, the Bel Air Luxury Cinema in Detroit and the Star John R 15 in Madison Heights will be part of the early opening.

It also debuts next Friday in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington D.C., Dallas, San Francisco/Oakland, Houston, Atlanta and Baltimore.

An invitation-only premiere is Tuesday at the Fox Theatre, two days after a media screening in Detroit.
