Kwame Kilpatrick may be long gone, languishing in a federal prison in El Reno, Oklahoma, but he hasn't been forgotten back in his hometown.
Nathan Bomey of the Detroit Free Press reports that the city of of Detroit is searching for records to expose details of Mayor Kilpatrick debt deal that seriously harmed the city financially.
Bomey writes that the issue on the debt deal "lingers as one of the last remaining obstacles to a successful restructuring."
Bomey reports that Detroit's bankruptcy lawyers have subpoenaed a New York trade publication and several key players in the deal.
The hope is that the info will help bolster the city’s case that the entire $1.4 billion deal was illegal.
