Mayor Mike Duggan said at the onset of his first term that he hoped the population of Detroit would be growing by the end of the four years.
That hasn't happened. However, the good news is that the city’s population loss has slowed to its lowest pace in decades, estimates released Thursday by the U.S. Census Bureau show, according to Adam Graham The Detroit News.
Detroit’s population was 672,795 as of last summer, a loss of 3,541 residents. The decline is nearly the same as the previous year’s loss of 3,573.
The city's ranking in the U.S. keeps dropping. It's now the 23rd largest city in the nation, bypassed by Washington and Boston. In 1960, Detroit was ifth with 1.6 million people.
