Davontae Sanford, who was wrongfully convicted in a quadruple murder of four people in Detroit in 2007, was shot and wounded Saturday night, WXYZ reports.

Sanford was in the King Homes housing complex in the 2000 block of East Lafayette Davontae Sanford when he was struck in the leg while trying to run from a shooter, sources tell the station.

He was taken to a hospital emergency room.

"He was shot in the leg," Detroit Police Chief James Craig said Sunday, The Detroit News reports. "The injury is not life-threatening."

Sanford was arrested at age 14 for a 2007 quadruple homicide in a drug house on Runyon Street. He spent nearly nine years behind bars before being released in June 2016.

He was released last year at age 23 after a hit man later took responsibility for the crime.
