Tiffani Eaton, the Pershing High School teacher fired for hitting a student with a broom to try and break up a fight, says she's a "mess."
Eaton spoke Thursday on the radio show, Mojo in the Morning, which started a fundraising campaign to help make up for any pay loss she might experience. As of 7:30 a.m. Friday, the donations totaled $3,847.
"I just want to say that i can’t even being to express how thankful I am for the outpouring of support and encouragement that I've received from you and your listeners," she said.
"This past week has truly been the most difficult in my life. and the love that you and your listens have shown for me and my family has simply been overwhelming. I can't thank you all enough for your support.
Her attorney Jeff Abood told Fox 2's Maurielle Lue "the result was what she wanted, which was to separate them before anybody was seriously hurt or killed." She could not call for help because her school-issued walkie talkie wasn't working.
"She did what she thought was her job, which was to not only teach and educate the students in her classroom, but also to protect them - and she lost her job over that," Abood told Fox 2.
