Techno music pioneer Carl Craig and seven other well-known DJs from this city are safe in Paris after hurriedly cancelling a huge Detroit-themed event.

The seven-hour party had been expected to draw up to 7,000 people, Brian McCollum writes in the Detroit Free Press.

"It's scary and sad," Kevin Saunderson told the Free Press about the terror events a few miles from his [hotel] room in Paris. "This is a black day."

The "Detroit Love" music party, scheduled to begin at midnight at Paris' Virgo club, was to have featured Detroit artists Saunderson, Carl Craig, Terrence Parker, Niko Marks, Octave One, Oxyd and DJ Stingray.

A club listing also shows Carlos Nilmmns among the DJs.

On Facebook, Saunderson posts:

I'm in Paris with Carl Craig, and our hearts are broken for the people of Paris and France. We mourn with all the world the senseless loss of life witnessed tonight and we mourn for our loss of freedom, trust and a easier way of life and love. Friday November 13 2015 will be remembered as a dark day.

We are not leaving anytime soon since all the borders have been closed and there is a curfew, but we are safe and send love to all. Kevin
