Egyptian American Shafik Shoaib has been living the American hell right here in the Motor City.
He tells the Arab American News that he is harassed by neighbors in Detroit daily and has been the subject of ethnic slurs because he is Arabic. He said recently his vehicle was vandalized. Someone spray painted things all over it including a penis.
There's apparently a history here.
In November 2006, he says a group of people broke in his home and beat him up because he is an Arab. The FBI investigated that.
He says he's afraid to let his four children play outside.
"First this, what’s next. I’m afraid another incident similar to what happened in 2006 will occur, but it could even be worse," Shoaib told the paper. "My children and my wife feel like they’re in prison," he said. Shoaib says his children can’t play outside because he’s afraid for their safety. He has four children ages 17, 13, 11 and 10.
