Those nasty days when film crews came from around the world to see Detroit burn on Devil's Night, the night before Halloween, seems to be a distant memory.

The city issued a press release Saturday afternoon saying that Detroit had recorded 11 fires on October 30,  the night before Halloween, the lowest since the city launched an annual campaign 20 years ago to combat the problem.

The city considers the Angel's night campaign three nights, including Halloween.

In the first two nights, Oct. 29 and Oct. 30, the city said it recorded 28 fires, less than half of the two-day tally of 66 last year. It said more than one-third of fires have been outdoor fires or trash containers.

Steve Neavling of Motor City Muckraker,  who has closely monitored the fires, reported:

For the first time since the 1970s, Detroit is on pace to record fewer than 90 fires during the notorious three-day Devil’s Night period.

The city has aggressively recruited volunteers to help combat fires during this period.
