"The Fist"

"The Fist" is getting a tune-up.

McKenna Ross writes in the Detroit Free Press that the Detroit Institute of Arts conservation staff will be doing restoration work on the monument to Joe Louis  on Jefferson Avenue on Wednesday to help conserve the 9,000 pound sculpture that was created in 1985.

The Freep reports that the staff will be replacing cables, performing minor structural work and cleaning the surface. The work is expected to start at 9 a.m. and be completed by 3 p.m.

The Fist is restored about every 10 years, the Freep reports.
