It's been a little while since Warren Mayor Jim Fouts has been at the center of a controversy.
So, here we go.
Fouts on Thursday denied reports suggesting he asked a city official to destroy a tape of his behavior during a diversity sensitivity course.
Mitch Hotts of The Macomb Daily reports:
The mayor denies claims made by Greg Murray, a former diversity coordinator for Warren, who alleges Fouts mocked people with Tourette’s syndrome during the training session.
“I did not order any tapes to be destroyed,” Fouts said. “The only person who wanted the tape destroyed was Greg.”
The controversy is related to an ongoing lawsuit filed against Warren by the city’s first black police officer. Murray’s claim about the tapes are included in a leaked deposition.
Fouts admits imitating a person with Tourette's during the training session, but claims it was done to raise a question about dealing with such behavior.
