Disgraced former state Supreme Court Justice DIane Hathaway, who was sentenced to 1 year and 1 day in prison for bank fraud,  has been released from the federal prison in West Virginia known as "Camp Cupcake," WXYZ reports.

Ross Jones of WYXZ reports that Hathaway is now eligible to serve out the remainder of her 36 days on home confinement. She had served 282 days in the minimum-security prison, Alderson Federal Prison Camp in West Viriginia  is known as "Camp Cupcake" because of its cushy environment. Martha Stewart and Monica Conyers are former alumni of the camp.

The former justice had about 90 days shaved off her time. She had tried to go to home confinement earlier, but a federal judge denied her request.

Normally, inmates serve time in a halfway house before going home. But authorities skipped that step out of concern for Hathaway's safety because she might have ended up being with someone she sentenced.

She was convicted of hiding assets so she could get a short sale on her lakefront home in Grosse Pointe.  -- Allan Lengel
