Michigan's Attorney General Bill Schuette, who has been mentioned as gubernatorial candidate, is bumping heads with Republican Gov. RIck Snyder in the Flint water probe.
Chad Livengood, and Jonathan Oosting of The Detroit News report that Schuette on Tuesday accused Gov. Rick Snyder’s private attorneys of withholding documents from his Flint water crisis investigators. Snyder denied the allegations.
“The attorneys with the Department of Attorney General are handling themselves in an exceedingly exceptional fashion,” Schuette said in a wide-ranging interview with Capitol reporters, the News reports. “But it’s the governor’s private attorneys who were not providing sufficient information.”
Schuette did not rule out taking legal action against Snyder's office to get the documents sought by Royal Oak attorney Todd Flood, Schuette’s special investigator in the Flint probe..
“I think it will be worked out,” Schuette said. “And if it’s not worked out, it will be solved. ... If we don’t get the documents that we require, then we’ll solve the problem otherwise, other ways.”
Snyder spokesman Ari Adler denies the charge, emailing to the Freep: “It is puzzling, therefore, to hear the attorney general suggest we are not cooperating.”
