The controversy in bankruptcy court over the Detroit Institute of Arts' treasures won't seem to go away.

On Thursday afternoon, US. Bankruptcy Judge Steven Rhodes ruled that creditors can't literally pull art off the wall so they can carry out their own appraisals, John Snell of the Detroit News reports. 

Bond holders, who stand to lose a lot of money in the bankruptcy proceedings, want the city to sell the art to pay debt.

In making his ruling, Judge Rhodes told bond holders buy a ticket and take a tour instead, the News reported.


“The risk to the art that could come from granting this relief…is a substantial risk and one not to be undertaken lightly…,” the judge said.
