Workers are gutting the hotel space.
There was a time when downtown Detroit had a difficult time sustaining one Starbucks. Well, here comes a fourth.
The new coffee shop will be in the Westin Book Cadillac Detroit hotel on Washington Blvd.
The hotel previously ran a cafe in that space, WBC Coffee, and served Starbucks beverages, but wasn't a branded franchise or company store. That shop has relocated to the second floor in the Motor Bar.
Workers are gutting the space, which should be ready "in a few months," says a hotel spokesperson.
The other Starbucks downtown are in the RenCen, Greektown and Campus Martius. Others are in Midtown, including at Wayne State University, and on 8 Mile Road in the Meijer strip mall.
While Starbucks is wildly popular, news of another one downtown is likely to create some backlash from people who dislike chains and prefer to support independent coffee shops.
