Downtown Ferndale is about to get an injection of new housing.

A $15-million development is slated for old Save-a-Lot building at 430 W. 9 Mile that will include 1,345 square feet of office space and parking on the first floor and 90 apartments, from studios to two-bedroom units. Construction is scheduled to begin next month.

The project, developed by Arbor Investments Group of Bloomfield Hills, will include an exercise facility, community room and a roof deck.

“The area chosen to develop this project is a prime spot for those wanting to live in Ferndale," says chief architect Peter Stuhlreyer of Designhaus Architecture, a Rochester firm handling the project. "It’s a convenient walk to the local stores and dining. This type of mixed use project allows for more economical growth in the city of Ferndale.”
