
The troubled Detroit Public Schools has more trouble on its hands.
The Detroit News reports that parents and community members have filed more than 35 complaints with the U.S. Department of Education against the district since May, saying it has failed to meet educational needs including providing bilingual teachers and principals for Spanish speaking students in Southwest Detroit.
The paper points out, for example, that there are 766 students at Earhart Elementary-Middle School last year and of those, 544 are Hispanic. . Of those, 511 were considered "limited English proficient."
One parent complained that the school has no bi-lingual teachers or principals.
