Police dive teams usually recover missing people in lakes or other bodies of water, but on Monday Detroit police in full underwater gear went into action inside a flooded basement on Ohio Street on the west side, Andrea Isom reports.
"I've been on the team 22 years this is one of the first times we've recovered a body from an actual building," Sgt. Dean Rademaker tells Isom.
The body was visible from one of the side basement windows," Rademaker says. "It was in about two feet of water."
The sergeant said the water was clear, but the smell was intense.
Cause of death was uncertain; the body was taken to the Wayne County Morgue.
